We need all kinds of leaders for deep change.
At Lazy Point Farms, we believe seaweed is for everyone. While often seen as a commodity belonging solely to coastal farmers, we envision a much broader community engaging with this incredible resource. We invite students, teachers, artists, writers, garden clubs, water quality scientists, public speakers, Girl Scouts, community organizers, and materials scientists – anyone who talks about, writes about, creates with, leads with, or studies seaweed – to join us. Whether seaweed is part of your hobby, volunteer efforts, or paid profession, you are a seaweed changemaker, and your involvement is crucial for driving systemic change.
Lead With Seaweed
Seaweed is for anyone, anywhere.
Lazy Point Farms is here to advance seaweed through modern, interdisciplinary education and volunteer leadership.
We believe anyone can champion seaweed and inspire change in their community, and that change can happen anywhere—from classrooms and garden clubs to Girl Scout meetings and town halls.
If you're passionate about leading a group to support seaweed's success, this page is for you. You're one of our most valued volunteers.
We envision Lazy Point Farms as a dynamic center for exploring the potential of seaweed in New York.
This will take many forms, including advocacy initiatives, hands-on projects, experiments, public debates, round-table discussions, and educational lessons. Our goal is to empower our community to actively shape the future of seaweed in the state. We will achieve this by connecting learners of all ages with industry professionals, fostering critical thinking and environmental awareness, and building a vibrant community of both learners and experts.
We believe that true learning is interdisciplinary.
Seaweed isn't confined to biology classrooms or marine science labs. It belongs in discussions about local policy and government, school projects on pollution, graphic design contests, Instagram Live sessions, creative writing assignments, and garden club discussions. We encourage New Yorkers to explore the diverse ways seaweed can drive positive change. This includes examining its various end-uses, the challenges it faces, its environmental benefits, and the current rules and regulations governing its development. Lazy Point Farms is here to provide support, answer your questions, spark new inquiries, and connect you with leading experts in the field.
Build something new.
We define our creatives as the people in our community who are creating something new with seaweed.
We don’t just mean small business owners who make products. Creatives are our community’s students, teachers, volunteers, writers, and producers. When a student writes a letter about seaweed to local officials as part of a class project, that’s not a homework assignment. That’s a volunteer paving the way, creating new possibilities for all of us.
Yes, of course - there are the traditional creatives who are in the business of making new products. We need you! Discover how seaweed can be added as an ingredient to products in your business.
Connect with us to be introduced to a local grower to establish your supply.
You can also consider wild-harvesting your own seaweed.
You don’t need to have your hands on seaweed to create possibility with it.
