This letter serves two primary objectives: to raise public awareness regarding the current restrictions on seaweed cultivation in New York State, which hinder most potential growers, and to demonstrate robust community support. By compiling a list of co-signatories, we aim to provide local leaders with tangible evidence of the widespread demand for accessible seaweed cultivation opportunities within Suffolk County.

This letter expresses our unwavering support for Kimiko Nakamura, an inspiring pioneer seeking to cultivate seaweed on her property. Despite her diligent efforts to navigate existing regulations, the absence of a suitable leasing program currently prevents her from realizing her vision. We urge policymakers to address this gap, not only for the residents of Oyster Bay but for all coastal communities across New York, thereby enabling greater participation in sustainable aquaculture.

We proudly highlight the remarkable achievement of local students from Tangier Smith Elementary, whom we guided through a water pollutiondesign challenge. Their innovative solution, which garnered an award in competition, showcases the potential of youth-driven initiatives to address critical environmental concerns. We strongly encourage local leaders to recognize and implement the practical, real-world solutions these students have developed for the preservation of our local waterways.
